GHONA VTC

Ghona vocational training center for deaf was founded in 2009 when UWAVIKA, a parent association for deaf children, identified the need for their children to acquire knowledge and skills for their future careers and their ability to live a normal, self-propelled life. Currently the VTCD has 13 trainees who are being trained on carpentry and tailoring, as well as other academic subjects

Through the Marr Munnings trust fund for internship programmed aiming to provide valuable experience to final year Deaf students from Ghona VTCD, provide the opportunity to gain hands on work experience that they did not get in the classroom, expand knowledge and skills on new and fashionable styles on tailoring and new furniture making styles, get chance to apply knowledge and skills acquired in the classroom, prepare final year students for transition from school life to street life finally gain confidence in work areas and form network with business people

PROVISION OF PRACTICAL MATERIALS

UaCP provided all necessary materials required by students to make their internship program successfully. Girls were brought with tailoring materials such as Cloth rolls Wax, Needle, thread, tailoring oil and the boys were brought provided with carpentry materials such as wood, glue, saws etc.

Tailoring group members were trained on how to undertake initial measurements, fashion designing and making of garments. Each one was able to make more than three dresses during the internship period.

Capentry group members were able to apply theory into practical by making different things made by wood , for example, stools, beds and chairs
